LMU Munich: AI Rules for Your Thesis
It depends on your faculty. We found no LMU-wide rule on AI in theses, only faculty guidance. The Physics faculty, for example, says to clarify with your supervisor what AI tools may be used for and how much, and treats AI as an aid: you state which software you used, when, where and to what extent.
What the official text says
These are the university's own words, quoted as published. Where the original is French, the third column paraphrases it; it is not a translation.
| Source | Official wording (verbatim) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Physics only: agree the scope first, then declare software, when, where and how much. |
What you have to do
Ask your supervisor before you start writing and keep a short log of every AI use (tool, date, task, what you kept). The declaration is much easier to fill in from a log than from memory.
Look for your faculty's own guidance or form before you rely on the Physics text.
What the rule leaves open
Only faculty sources were checked. The Physics text does not bind other faculties.
