Check a reference list

Paste your references. We look for their metadata in Crossref, one at a time.

This is a lookup against Crossref metadata, not a Citation Fidelity score. It does not check whether a source supports a claim.

Parsing happens in your browser. When you start, each DOI or title and year goes directly to Crossref’s public API. VerdictPal does not store your list or results. Crossref receives your requests and IP address. Do not paste confidential material.

Use one reference per line, or a blank line between references that wrap across lines. Numbered lists work too. We use the DOI if there is one; otherwise we try the title and year. Check the extracted title before trusting a match.

Lookup results

Results will appear here after you start a lookup.

Titles are compared after lowercasing and removing accents, punctuation and markup. A word-overlap similarity below 0.75 is labelled “title mismatch”. This is a rough check, not a verdict on the reference.

Crossref does not cover every book, preprint, website or paper. Title searches use only the first result. Parsing can miss titles in unusual citation styles; a close title is not proof of an exact match.
